Idaho Falls, Idaho. This is where I call home and have for the last several years. While being here I have been involved not only as a resident, but as a consumer. Being a consumer I’ve enjoyed visiting different businesses, and seeing what each one has had to offer. Just like any consumer, if I didn’t find the product or service I was looking for I moved on to the next store. I would do this until I finally found what I was looking for, at the price I was looking for. In today’s world, shops and local businesses have a greater need than just keeping their shelves organized in ways that help buyers find that perfect product. They need to have a home on the web where the consumers can search for the product from the comfort of their own home.
Websites are quickly becoming the main resource of finding retailer’s information. What used to be ruled by a yellow book in your kitchen drawer now resides on your desk, on your lap, or even in your pocket. What’s interesting is that within the first seconds of seeing your business’s site they will make key judgments about whether or not they’ll be buying from you. If your site doesn’t appeal to them and give them a professional sense they’ll be less likely to come back. In seconds, people are answering questions about your business before they even walk through your doors. To avoid this, you can either purchase a template that may fit the bill, or you can hire a web development company to customize your site around what you want it to look like. I would personally suggest the last part, but not only because I’m obviously biased. Grabbing templates can be great, especially if you use Content Management Software (CMS) like Drupal or Joomla! because you can edit the site whenever you please. The issue comes up not only when trying to learn these systems, but when they’ve been implemented. If your site isn’t original enough to stand out in their decision you could have very well lost a sale. That is one risk of using templates. However, I do think that templates are a great temporary solution.
